4 out of 5 stars Plays back well   May 24, 2009

The instructions are all about recording from hi-fi onto pc.
What I wanted was to play back Spotify throught the hi-fi.
And it works well.
Took some working out to set up the pcs audio aright, but not to difficult.
I also disconnected the earth lead from the laptop to avoid hum; there is an earth connection from the amp available.

5 out of 5 stars simple, fast and reliable   May 5, 2009

This has been one of the best purchases ever! this is a simple gadget that will enable you to transform any mac into your small scale home studio through Garage Band. I used it for the first time to record live a rehearsal of my Jazz trio, and it worked a treat! I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to start doing some proper recording in Mac.

5 out of 5 stars Does what it says on the 'tin'   April 8, 2009

Works perfectly on a mac with free downloaded software. Quality is as you would expect for digital -ie no where near the quality of vinyl or even CD but that's due to format rather than the hardware. I thoroughly recommend it! Easy to use too.

2 out of 5 stars Good concept, not so great result.   March 30, 2009

I bought this product to use with my iBook. I had a mini-jack microphone and headphones and wanted to use them both while recording vocals on Garageband - yet only had room for 1 on my iBook.

The iMac is now laying in a drawer somewhere.

The concept of it works: a basic USB Audio Interface at a very reasonable price designed to tie in with the i-Rage.

I found that using the iMic added a buzz to my recordings I could not get rid of, no matter what I did. So in fact it made things worse instead of it getting better. It was like there was some electrical influence on it but the wire wasn't long enough to get it far enough removed from my laptop.

A waste of money if you ask me. For 3x the spend (still well under 100) I got a brilliant USB condenser mic which gives me fantastic crisp sound. I've never looked back.

5 out of 5 stars Fine piece of kit.   March 29, 2009

I bought the Griffin iMic to enable me to transfer recordings from an older style digital portastudio which records onto zip disks. Without having the iMic, the only way I can do such transfers is to buy an external zip drive for the PC. Given the mixed reviews, I was wary about the success of the iMic but it has proved itself an invaluable item.

It is simple to set up (just plug it into the USB port and load the software) and using the Audacity software included with the cable, I am easily able to use the stereo aux outputs from my portastudio and record my music to hard drive and in one simple step, convert it to MP3 format.

I don't know how well it works in other situations but it certainly does all that I require with a minimal amount of lag and my PC isn't exactly the most high spec (Dell Dimension 2350, Windows XP 2002, Pentium4 2.6GHz processor, 1 GB RAM). I would recommend the iMic to anyone looking to put it to a similar use and have nothing bad to say about it.
