Vista Users Take Note October 8, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I you're a Vista user and are considering buying the iMic, please take note of Griffin's support page:
"The iMic hardware is not compatible with the Microsoft Vista software."
The iMic significantly increased the quality of the audio output from my laptop but the input would only allow 1 channel recording. Being a Vista user myself, the Griffin support page wasn't what I wanted to read.

* As USB audio-out device from MacBook to Denon 5.1 surround A/V amp - superb. * As mic-in device for connecting stereo condenser mic to MacBook - superb, esp for ambient soundscape type recordings. * As pre-amp for recording Vinyls - superb + nice software for naming / combining tracks * Smaller than expected from looking at photo + weighs next to nothing - great!

I've used this device to transfer audio tapes onto my MP3 player, via the hi-fi and a laptop PC. It is surprisingly small, just plugs into to a USB port and is recognised straight away by Windows XP. No drivers need to be installed. The sound quality and input levels are fine. Caveats: (1) I haven't yet tried audio output via the iMic. (2) Linux recognises the device, but at the time of writing the only supported input is Mono Microphone.
